"What Can Be Learned From Mothers Raising Daughters?"

Wisdom. Mothers raising daughters have the hardest yet most fulfilling job they will ever have in their lifetime. It has both the greatest risks and the greatest rewards.

Our little girls don’t come with a handbook, and books or classes on parenting are not always catered to life’s currents and undertows.

The best information and tools come from those women who have embraced the challenge of positively influencing and teaching their girls to grow up to be spectacular women.

Not everyone has what it takes to be a good mother. Good mothers are:

• selfless;
• consider their children their foremost priority;
• know how to make lemonade when life gives them lemons or be flexible and open enough to learn;
• live by the Golden Rule and give of themselves,
• realize they are not perfect and seek to better themselves along with their children,
• teach the young women in their lives how to manage change and the importance of the transitions for the best outcome;
• are patient, discerning and accepting - loving many and trusting few; and,
• never lower their standards to please or appease others.

This maternal rite of passage uniquely bonds generations of women of all ages and all walks of life.

Inspiration. Good mothers inspire their daughters:

• to embrace what true beauty is - inside and out;
• to see the glass as half full rather than half empty;
• to have a well-rounded appreciation for: culture, history, heritage, the arts, exercise, foods, play, lifestyles and life experiences; and,
• to seek adventure, nurture creativity and imagination, and embrace self-evolution.

Empowerment. Good mothers:

• share skills that will be used throughout their daughters' lifetimes as homemakers and/or professionals; decision makers and leaders
• teach the importance of self worth, values and stick-to-it-tiveness
• give of themselves to build up the young women in their lives.

Learn from mentors that have been there and done that, forged a new journey and/or perfected their “lemonade”; a unique and powerful community of generations of women - a sisterhood – sharing our lives and providing guidance.

Explore. Be inspired. Find kindred spirits. Realize you are not alone. Stimulate your passion and creativity. Be positively motivated. Find options and knowledge.
