Mothers Are Powerful Role Models
Good mothers are extraordinary role models who set positive standards for their relationships with the women in their lives. Walk Your Talk. We are all human and we make mistakes. We model great character by allowing our daughters to get to know us just as much as they would get to know a new friend. In other words, we must allow them to see us for the women we are - no pretense, the real thing - to show them that we are proud to be the women we are, our own perceived flaws and all. Many of us have let our careers take a back seat to motherhood, gained a few (or more) pounds, made some less than favorable financial choices, found ourselves in not-so-healthy relationships; such is growing up, such is life. Still, we each have so much to teach our girls from our mistakes and so much to show them in our daily lives as role models for how we overcame adversity that will better equip them in life. We have an opportunity to allow them "behind the scenes" - to see us for the not-so-polished, yet caring, intelligent, creative human beings we are, by sharing our stories with them. Moms, we are here to give our girls direction, teach them skills, guide them through the various stages of their developing lives, empower them to discover the activities and lifestyles they enjoy and dream of for their futures. Proactively, we can our primary focus should include: self-esteem, independence, dreams, academics, self expression, relaxation, a positive competitive spirit, and adventure.
- Self-esteem
is the most important gift you can give your daughter. - Independence goes hand-in-hand with good self-esteem and empowerment.
- Dreams allow us to try out our imaginations in a private screening room.
- Academics
include reading, writing and math - all necessary tools for our daughters' survival. - Relaxation is an essential part of physical, mental and emotional growth and rejuvenation.
- Self Expression gives our daughters voices, power over their lives and affirms who they are.
- A Positive Competitive Spirit enables our daughters to be gracious and embrace camaraderie while stretching their physical and mental selves. Competition is healthy, particularly when our daughters are young and learning social selvess.
- Adventures need not be expensive or dangerous - the best are often free and close to home!
So you can see how important positive we moms are in our daughters' lives and how important we are to the empowering role modeling they receive.
